Season 24 kicked off with a snoozfest as the "Slow" game speed setting killed the momentum of the game. Both managers after the game both agreed that the game felt extra slow than normal which brought about a boring 0-0 draw to open the campaign for each club.

Southampton kicked off their season with an impressive 5 - 1 away victory over St. Etienne. New signee Manolo Gabbiadini had a hand in the Saints' first three goals to earn MOTM honors. The 2nd goal was the best of the bunch as Gabbiadini chipped a rushing Ruffier inside the box to show his excellent finishing and class.

Sofiane Boufal's late heroics were the difference between these two premier league and buckeye cup rivals. The Moroccan attacker skilled his way past West Ham's stout defense after a lay-off from JWP and finished over a diving Adrian to earn the Saints the victory.

Southampton fell behind early but equalized shortly before halftime and took the lead at the hour mark to secure the victory. Selçuk Inan played a brilliant one-two with Bruma and curled one in from the top left outside the box to put the visitors ahead in the 5th minute. From there, Southampton put the pressure on as they created several chances that were kept out by Fernando Muslera. The Saints got their goal from new signee Martin Caceres who rose above the defenders at the near post to head home from a corner. Sofiane Boufal's flair created the second goal as he skillfully created some space for a shot that deflected off a Galatasaray defender but feel calmly to Manolo Gabbiadini who volleyed past Muslera for the 2nd goal.
